Rep. Cam Ward Qualifies to Seek Senate Seat

(MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA)—State Representative Cam Ward (R-Alabaster), filed his papers today to run for the Alabama Senate District 14 in the June Republican Primary. He filed his qualifying papers this morning in Montgomery with Republican State Party officials.

Senate District 14 encompasses parts of Shelby and Jefferson and all of Bibb and Chilton Counties. The seat is currently held by Senator Hank Erwin (R-Montevallo) who is vacating his position to run for Lieutenant Governor. Rep. Ward currently represents House District 49 which is comprised of part of Shelby and all of Bibb County.

“I am looking forward to taking my experience in the House of Representatives to the Alabama Senate. Serving District 49 has been rewarding and challenging, and the good news is that if I am elected to the Senate, all of my current constituents will continue to be my constituents. In the Senate, I will also have the opportunity to represent Chilton County and part of Jefferson County,” Rep. Ward said.

Cam Ward was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2002.  He has been a champion of ethics reform and a proponent of overhauling the Alabama Department of Transportation. He has been an advocate for bringing public awareness to autism and autism-related disorders. He, along with the Mayor and City Council of Alabaster, has been credited with an ambitious economic development plan for Shelby County resulting in hundreds of new jobs and retail expansion.

Rep. Ward, his wife Julie and daughter Riley live in Alabaster.
